Waymo FAQs

Do I need a Waymo invite code to ride?
It depends on the city. As of October 2026, anyone can download the Waymo app and ride in Phoenix, the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, Nashville, Dallas and Houston, with no invite code needed. In cities that are still rolling out (San Diego, Denver, Tampa, Las Vegas and San Antonio), Waymo lets riders in gradually: you download the app, sign up, and Waymo notifies you when it's your turn. There is no single public invite code that unlocks a new city.
Will a Waymo referral code get me off the waitlist?
Waymo hasn't said so. Its Refer & Earn help page describes referral rewards as ride incentives, and its instructions for new cities are simply to download the app and wait to be invited. Waymo did once let riders share access-granting invite codes, but its help page limits those to Los Angeles. Treat a referral code as a discount on a ride you can already take, not a guaranteed way to skip the line.
Which cities is Waymo in right now?
As of October 2026, Waymo carries public riders in 15 US metro areas. In the Waymo app it is open to everyone in Phoenix, the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, Nashville, Dallas and Houston. It is gradually adding riders in San Diego, Denver and Tampa (launched September 1, 2026), Las Vegas (launched September 14, 2026) and San Antonio (service resumed September 17, 2026); in those cities you download the app, sign up, and wait to be notified. In Austin and Atlanta, Waymo rides are booked only through the Uber app. Washington, D.C. has not launched.
How much do you get with a Waymo referral code?
Waymo doesn't publish a fixed amount. Its help center says to check the app for current incentive values, and the program can change at any time. Third-party sites commonly report $10 off a first ride, but confirm the amount shown in your app after you add a code. Both people benefit: the new rider gets an incentive to start riding, and the person who shared the code earns a reward once the new rider completes their first ride.
How do I redeem a Waymo referral code?
Either tap the referral link a friend sent you and download the Waymo app, or add the code manually in the app under Account > Offers & promotions. Once applied, the incentive is available for 60 days and can only be used on rides in the United States. It can't be transferred or exchanged for cash.
Are Waymo referral codes for new riders only?
The program is built around bringing in new riders: the person who shared the code is rewarded when their friend completes a first ride. Waymo's help page doesn't list every eligibility rule, so if your account has already taken Waymo rides, the app may not accept a referral code. To share your own code, you need to have taken at least three rides, and you can send it to up to 10 friends a month.
Can I use a Waymo code on Uber in Austin or Atlanta?
Probably not. In Austin and Atlanta, Waymo rides are booked only in the Uber app: you turn on the Waymo preference under Autonomous Vehicles in Uber's ride preferences and request an eligible ride type such as UberX or Uber Comfort, and a Waymo match isn't guaranteed. Waymo referral codes are redeemed in the Waymo app, and Waymo doesn't say those incentives carry over to Uber-booked rides. Look for Uber's own promotions instead.
What should I do if a Waymo code doesn't work?
Make sure you're entering it in the Waymo app (not Uber) and that you're in a city where you can already ride. Referral incentives are aimed at new riders, so a code may be rejected if your account has already ridden or already has a referral applied. Waymo gives each rider only 10 referral codes to share per month, so a code posted publicly may already be used up, and Waymo can change the program at any time. Try a different code from this page, and contact Waymo support in the app if a valid code still isn't accepted. Code Load isn't affiliated with Waymo.

How to get a Waymo ride credit (and what codes can't do)

Code Load is not affiliated with Waymo. The codes on this page are shared by Waymo riders, and we can't promise that any single code will work. Here's how Waymo's referral program works, based on Waymo's help center and news coverage as of October 2026.

Step 1: Check whether you can ride in your city

Anyone can download the Waymo app and ride in Phoenix, the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles, Miami, Orlando, Nashville, Dallas and Houston. In San Diego, Denver and Tampa (since September 1, 2026) and Las Vegas (since September 14, 2026), Waymo is adding riders gradually: download the Waymo app, sign up, and Waymo will let you know when it's your turn. In San Antonio, Waymo resumed rides in September 2026 after a weather-related pause, so check the app for availability. In Austin and Atlanta, Waymo rides are booked only through the Uber app.

Step 2: Add a referral code

  • Tap a friend's referral link and download the Waymo app, or
  • Enter a code manually in the app under Account > Offers & promotions.
  • Check the app for the incentive amount. Waymo doesn't publish a fixed value, and its program terms can change at any time.
  • Once applied, an incentive is available for 60 days and can only be used on rides in the United States.

What a referral code won't do

Waymo describes referral rewards as ride incentives. It has not said that a referral code moves you up the waitlist in cities that are still rolling out, so be skeptical of anything sold as a "skip the line" code. Incentives can't be transferred or cashed out. And because Austin and Atlanta rides are booked in the Uber app, don't expect a code entered in the Waymo app to discount those trips.

Already riding? Share your own code

After you've taken at least three Waymo rides (on an up-to-date version of the app), you can send your referral code to up to 10 friends a month; the limit resets at the start of each month. You earn a reward, applied automatically to your next ride, once a friend completes their first ride. Post your code here so other new riders can find it.

Other ways to save

Waymo also runs its own in-app promotions. In September 2026, for example, Waymo began offering $2.85 in Waymo Cash to San Francisco riders who pair a Waymo ride with public transit using the same Visa card.

Where you can ride Waymo, city by city (October 2026)

Whether you need an invite depends on the city. Here is where each one stands, based on Waymo's help center, its launch posts and news coverage.

San Diego: invite needed (gradual rollout)

As of October 2026, Waymo in San Diego is not yet open to everyone. Service launched on September 1, 2026, and Waymo is adding riders gradually, inviting people who signed up on a rolling basis. To get in line, download the Waymo app, sign up, and watch for a notification. A referral code is a ride discount for accounts that can already book; Waymo's referral terms don't say it moves you up the list.

Las Vegas: invite needed (gradual rollout)

As of October 2026, you need to be let in. Las Vegas launched on September 14, 2026 with gradual access, and riders sign up in the Waymo app and wait to be let in. Download the app and sign up to be notified. A referral code adds a ride incentive once you can ride; nothing in Waymo's terms says it grants access.

Dallas: open to everyone

No invite code needed. Waymo opened Dallas to everyone on August 4, 2026, and its help center says no invite code is required. Download the Waymo app and request a ride. A referral code is optional and adds a new-rider incentive, which you enter under Account > Offers & promotions.

San Antonio: invite needed (gradual rollout)

As of October 2026, San Antonio is not open to everyone. Service resumed on September 17, 2026 after a five-month pause, and Waymo's help center lists the city as gradually adding riders. Download the Waymo app and sign up to be notified. A referral code is a ride discount, not a way in.

Houston: open to everyone

No invite code needed. Waymo opened Houston to everyone on August 20, 2026, so anyone can download the Waymo app and ride. A referral code is optional and adds a new-rider incentive. Waymo doesn't publish the amount; it says to check your app.

Miami: open to everyone

No invite code needed. Miami has been open to everyone since April 15, 2026. Download the Waymo app and ride. A referral code is optional and adds a ride incentive that is valid for 60 days once applied.

Nashville: open to everyone

No invite code needed. Nashville opened to everyone on June 25, 2026, and Waymo's help center says no invite code is required. Download the Waymo app and request a ride. A referral code is optional and only adds a ride incentive.

Los Angeles: open to everyone

No invite code needed. Los Angeles has been open to everyone since November 2024. Download the Waymo app and ride; a referral code is optional and adds a new-rider incentive.

San Francisco: open to everyone

No invite code needed. San Francisco has been open to everyone since June 2024, and the service now covers much of the Bay Area, including the Peninsula and San Jose. Download the Waymo app and ride; a referral code is optional and adds a ride incentive.

Denver: invite needed (gradual rollout)

As of October 2026, Denver is not yet open to everyone. Service launched on September 1, 2026, and Waymo is inviting riders on a rolling basis from the people who signed up in the app. Download the Waymo app, sign up, and wait for your notification. A referral code is a ride discount for accounts that can already book; Waymo's referral terms don't say it moves you up the list.

Tampa: invite needed (gradual rollout)

As of October 2026, Tampa is not yet open to everyone. Service launched on September 1, 2026, and Waymo is admitting people who signed up in stages. Download the Waymo app and sign up to be notified. A referral code adds a ride incentive once your account can book; Waymo's terms don't say it affects the wait.

Orlando: open to everyone

No invite code needed. Orlando has been open to everyone since April 15, 2026. Download the Waymo app and ride; a referral code is optional and adds a new-rider incentive.

Phoenix: open to everyone

No invite code needed. Phoenix is Waymo's longest-running market and is open to everyone in the Waymo app. A referral code is optional and adds a ride incentive.

Austin: booked through Uber

No invite code, and the Waymo app isn't how you ride there. In Austin, Waymo vehicles are booked only through the Uber app, so there is no Waymo invite code or waitlist. Waymo referral codes are entered in the Waymo app, and Waymo hasn't said they apply to rides booked in Uber.

Atlanta: booked through Uber

No invite code, and the Waymo app isn't how you ride there. In Atlanta, Waymo vehicles are booked only through the Uber app, so there is no Waymo invite code or waitlist. Waymo referral codes are entered in the Waymo app, and Waymo hasn't said they apply to rides booked in Uber.
